What is Lamination?
Lamination is the bonding of a thin, transparent layer of film to the surface of a paper printed sheet. It can be applied to presentation folders, index tabs, turned edge binders or packaging. It creates a richer look and feel than paper alone. Colors appear more brilliant, and the film protects against tears, scuffs and spills. Lamination is commonly gloss which gives a shiny quality. The lamination The Leslie Company uses can also be foil stamped and even spot varnished.
Types of lamination The Leslie Company offers:
- Gloss – shiny, most common and economical option
- Matte – silky, smooth clear sheen with less glare
- Soft Touch – matte finished and velvety & silky to the touch
Lamination Benefits
- Fingerprints, smudges, and oil are easily wiped off gloss lamination.
- Matte lamination has less glare and provides a sophisticated look.
- Products are more durable, sturdier and longer lasting.
- Easily include foil stamping or spot UV for enhanced graphic design and elevated look.
- Ability to apply lamination to one or both sides of the paper sheet.
Lamination Considerations
- The printed color won’t be an exact match, as lamination can shift color balance.
- Fingerprints, smudges, and oil are apparent on dark flood printed sheets. They are also more prominent on matte and soft touch lamination.
- Laminated products are not indestructible, but it does increase the longevity of a paper product
